Government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.
They also will be closed in surrounding towns.
All city, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the General Services Administration and the federal courts.
Banks will be closed.
Monday classes are canceled at Kansas University, and campus buildings, including libraries, will be closed.
Lawrence Bus Co. buses will not run. The Lawrence Transit system will be closed, with neither fixed routes nor paratransit buses running.
Douglas County Senior Services will be closed Monday. All activities, including the Adult Day Program and the noon meal, will be canceled. Meals will not be served at Babcock Place, Edgewood Place, Lecompton, Eudora and Baldwin. No meals will be delivered. Bus 62 services will be canceled as well. Lawrence Meals on Wheels, however, will deliver meals Monday.
City residents are asked to put grass clippings out with their normal weekly trash pickup, as city crews will not be collecting grass clippings on Monday. No other changes are planned in sanitation route schedules next week.
The Lawrence Public Library will be closed both Sunday and Monday.
The post office won't make regular deliveries Monday, but Express Mail deliveries will be made. Mail pickup from collection boxes won't be made as posted on individual boxes.
UPS will not make deliveries.
The business office at the Journal-World will be closed, but the circulation office will be open for phone and walk-in business from 4:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
USA Today won't be published Monday.
