Inmates up for parole

A man convicted of second-degree murder in Franklin County soon will be eligible for parole.

The Kansas Parole Board is seeking public comments about Stanley N. Garrett and other state prison inmates who will have parole hearings in October.

Garrett was convicted in 1973 of the September 1971 stabbing death of his neighbor, Maude Richardson, 85. He is serving a 15 years-to-life prison sentence.

Garrett is serving additional time for aggravated assault, rape and aggravated sodomy stemming from a 1971 attack on an Ottawa couple. He is in the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.

Two people convicted of crimes in Douglas County are among the inmates soon to be up for parole.

Randy A. Foster was convicted in a 1993 case of attempted aggravated sexual battery and aggravated incest. He is in the Ellsworth Correctional Facility.

J.C. Edward Davis was convicted of theft of $100 or more in Douglas County in 1978. He was convicted of the following in Shawnee County: burglary, aggravated escape from custody, aggravated assault, felony theft, no drug tax stamp, arranging drug sales near a community facility and two convictions for possession of drugs with intent to sell. He is in the Norton Correctional Facility.

Others inmates up for parole:

Ronald L. Carpenter, aggravated robbery, Franklin County, in the El Dorado Correctional Facility.

Jerry B. Gray, rape, Leavenworth County, in the Ellsworth Correctional Facility.

Henry D. Pondexter, aggravated escape from custody, Leavenworth County, and burglary, attempted first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, Sedgwick County, in the Lansing Correctional Facility.

People can express their views on possible parole for individuals during hearings at the following locations:
