Hope expected to go home soon

September 2, 2001

— Bob Hope was continuing to make a rapid recovery from pneumonia and is expected to return home Monday, his publicist said.

"Things are doing well," Ward Grant said by telephone Saturday.

The 98-year-old entertainer remains weak after a bout that began a week ago when he reported having trouble breathing at his Toluca Lake home. He had no fever and was not placed on life support machinery.

Hope, who in recent years has used to a wheelchair, is at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center.

He has been able to speak, although with limited ability. His wife and daughter, Linda, have been by his side since he was admitted.
