Sidney, N.Y. An 18-year-old man reported absent without leave from the Army has been charged with murdering a Quebec man at a rest stop along the Adirondack Northway, and is also a suspect in the death of his step-uncle.
Ronald Caruso, of Walton, is being held at the state police post at Sidney in connection with the shooting death of Luke J. Leborgne, 19, of Kahnawake, Quebec.
Leborgne was found dead Thursday morning at the Lewis rest area on I-87 in Essex County. Police said the body was found in a car reportedly stolen by Caruso.
Caruso is also a suspect in Tuesday evening's shooting death of Gary Kays, 32, of Delaware, Sullivan County, state police said.
Caruso was the stepson of Kays' brother.
Caruso was also reported as AWOL from Fort Riley since Aug. 23.
He was taken into custody Thursday afternoon in Sullivan County, reportedly driving the car owned by Leborgne.
