Heitzman Leads Pack: Paul Heitzman of Eudora won the ages 70-74 division of the Woolaroc Park 8K last Saturday near Bartlesville, Okla. Heitzman's time over the hilly course was 34:02.

Spray Bike Titlist: Larry Spray of Lawrence won the masters division of the Midwest Fat Tire bicycling series last weekend in Trenton. Mo. Lawrence's Matt Davis was fifth in sport men ages 19-24 and Matt Gilhousen was fifth in expert men.

Gemeinhardt Low: Roger Gemeinhardt shot a 75 to win last weekend's Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar. Van Reichert was a stroke behind while Mike Naegele had a 79 and Steve Cross an 83. In net play, Brian Byrd and Randy Gebhards both carded 71s. Steve Crawford checked in at 72. Mike Hertling and Jeff Miller each recorded a 74.

Holcom Unavailable: On Sunday, the outdoor tennis, racquetball and basketball courts at Holcom Park will not be available for public use due to a private reservation. City officials encourage use of alternative locations.

Chicago Marathoner: Paul Turvey of Lawrence competed in last weekend's Chicago Marathon, finishing in a time of 3:11:24 which qualifies him for the Boston Marathon.

Loomis Hat Tricks: Carleton College's Dakota Loomis, a senior from Lawrence, scored back-to-back hat tricks in soccer wins over Augsburg and St. John's last week. The six goals were Loomis's first of the season.

Force Teams Tie: Kaw Valley Force U-13 and U-14 girls battled to a 1-1 deadlock last week at YSI. Abby Vestal scored for the U-13 girls and Sierra Best for the U-14 team. The U-13 goalkeeper was Kara Wahnee. Carly Sakumura and Kathryn Lewis divided net duties for U-14.

Schnose Longhorn Rower: Elise Schnose, a former Lawrence High swimmer and cross country runner, has made the Texas University rowing team as a walk-on. Out of 150 hopefuls, Schnose was one of 57 selected.

Chicago Marathoners: Lawrence's Cindy Johnson, Chris Johnson and Carla Phipps competed in last Sunday's Chicago Marathon. All three finished in a little more than five hours. More than 37,500 runners entered.

Orchards Winter League: Orchards Golf Course is taking reservations for its winter league. Play will begin on Nov. 6. The league is open to all persons of all skills levels. For information, call 843-7456.

Hoopster Evaluations: Lawrence Hoopster League will conduct evaluations on Saturday and Sunday at the Holcom Rec Center. Fourth and fifth graders are scheduled at 12:30 p.m. each day while sixth and seventh graders are slated at 2:45 p.m. each day. For information, call 749-4664.

Men's tryouts approach: Kansas University's men's basketball team will conduct walk-on try-outs at 8 p.m. Sunday in Allen Fieldhouse. Any KU student interested in participating should stop by KU's men's basketball office (250 Wagnon Student Athletics Complex) to fill out preliminary paperwork.
