Kansas' top money-management official will be in Lawrence this week to help people understand how to save money for a child's education.
State Treasurer Tim Shallenburger will lead a seminar, "Plan 529: Investing for Education," from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 325 Maine St. Lunch will be from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
The seminar will review so-called Section 529 plans, which provide for tax-free investments when proceeds are used for qualifying educational expenses. The state's program, administered by American Century Investments, is called Learning Quest.
The seminar is sponsored by Douglas County Bank Trust Services and is presented by the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Assn., Brandon Woods Retirement Community and Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
