A man was injured Monday afternoon when the dump truck he was driving overturned at 11th Street and Haskell Avenue.

A load of gravel the truck was carrying shifted, causing the accident, Lawrence Police and witnesses said. The truck was northbound on Haskell when it attempted to go around a curve to the west onto 11th Street. Gravel spilled onto the ground at the side of 11th Street.

The driver was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical.

The driver was pulled from the cab of the truck by employees at Don's Auto Center, 920 E. 11th St., and a tow truck driver who happened to be driving in the area.

"This is about the second or third accident like this here in the last three or four years," said Mike Grammer, manager of Don's Auto.

The name of the driver was unavailable. Lettering on the truck bore the name Penney's Concrete Inc.
