Kansas high school and college English teachers will gather today for a conference in Lawrence.
The 49th annual Conference on Composition and Literature will focus on "Teaching Traditions in a Time of Transition." Featured speakers will be Amanda L. Golbeck, director of academic affairs with the Kansas Board of Regents, and David Anthony Durham, author of "Gabriel's Story," a novel about a 15-year-old black teen-ager who moves to central Kansas in the 1870s.
The conference, which will be at the Kansas Union, is sponsored by the Kansas University department of English, provost's office, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Department of Continuing Education.
