More than a dozen people from across the country gathered this weekend in Lawrence for the annual meeting of the U.S.-El Salvador Sister Cities Network.
The Lawrence-El Papaturro Friendship Committee, the network's local representative, was host to the meeting at Ecumenical Christian Ministries, 1204 Oread.
The entire group works with and provides support to 25 rural communities. Lawrence has an unofficial sister city relationship with El Papaturro, which was started several years ago.
At the meeting, people saw the honoring quilt, designed by Teresa Chief Eagle of Lawrence.
Chief Eagle plans to deliver the quilt to the people of El Papaturro in honor of the 10th anniversary of their repatriated community before the end of November.
Marilyn Thunder Hawk, Lawrence, and women of the Yankton Sioux Reservation in South Dakota also helped make the hand-sewn quilt.
