CARBONDALE, ILL. Kansas University's women's swimming and diving team opened its season with a 116.5-88.5 rout of Southern Illinois on Friday.
KU senior Carrie Kirkham won two individual events the 50 and 100 freestyle and was on the winning 200 medley relay team, along with Shanell Salzman, Miranda Isaac and Sarah Holke.
"Carrie is our fastest sprinter and had a great day," KU coach Cathy Burgess said. "But she has a lot ahead of her this year."
Kansas' Kristen Johnson was a winner in the 200 IM while Jackie Krueger, Amy Gruber and Isaac, a trio of freshmen, posted individual victories.
Krueger won the 200 freestyle, while Gruber and Isaac claimed titles in the 100 fly and 100 breaststroke, respectively.
