Mrs. Schindler died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 20, 1919, in Cuba, Mo., the daughter of Frank and Florence Owens Tynes. She had lived in Lawrence since 1949, when she moved from Sunflower Village.
Mrs. Schindler graduated from Cuba HIgh School in 1937. She held various Federal Civil Service positions, worked a number of years at Sunflower Ordnance Plant and retired as senior purchasing agent in 1984 after working for Panhandle Eastern Pipe LIne Company in Kansas City, Kan., for 25 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she had served on various committees, which included a number of years as leader of her church circle. She was a 50-year member of Adah Chapter No. 7 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a longtime member and past president of Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Lawrence. She also belonged to the Desk and Derrick Club of Kansas City, and the Quivira Club, Lawrence.
She married James P. Kreitzer July 8, 1939. They were divorced. She married William H. Schindler June 26, 1949, in Olathe. He died Dec. 11, 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Billie Jo Schindler Rhodes, Lawrence; a son, Karl Kreitzer, Gig Harbor, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Jeannine Maturo, Lawrence, and Darlene Schaake, Ellensburg, Wash.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 14 great-stepgrandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials in her name to First United Methodist or Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., sent in care of the mortuary.
