The Lawrence City Commission will receive a staff report and consider directing staff concerning the preparation of 2002 City Legislative Policy Statement.

Background

The 2002 Kansas Legislature convenes on Jan. 14. The city's policy statement communicates the city's position of various issues to local legislators. Top issues in the next legislature will concern redistricting and city authority to negotiate franchise fees for cable, gas and other utilities.

Review and approve minutes of the following boards and commissions: City Commission meeting of Nov. 20; Board of Zoning Appeals meeting of Nov. 1; Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting of Oct. 9; Recycling and Resource Conservation Advisory Board meeting of Oct. 10.

Approve all claims.

Approve the following mayoral appointments: Ken White and Lee Queen to the Uniform Building Code Board of Appeals; James Dunn, Marilyn Roy, Terri Pippert and Diana Deutsch to the Neighborhood Resources Advisory Committee; Mark Tucker, Trent McKinley and Pat Weaver to the Lawrence Bicycle Advisory Committee; Don Shepard, Richard Heckler, William Jeltz and Kelley Boyle-Wolfe to the Grant Review Board; Deb Baker and Lewis Phillips to the Recycling and Resource Conversation Advisory Board.

Adopt the following ordinance(s) on second and final reading:

Establishing a moratorium until April 1, 2002, on the issuance of building permits for property generally located in a certain portion of Old West Lawrence neighborhood.

Establishing a moratorium until April 1, 2002, on the issuance of demolition permits for property generally located in a certain portion of Old West Lawrence neighborhood.

Adopt findings of fact and authorize drafting of ordinances to rezoning approximately .466 acre from agricultural district to general commercial district. The property is located at 912 N. Third Street. Requested by Price Banks for Larry and Judy Schomer, property owners of record.

Accept easements and rights-of-way for the following final plat of Fox Chase Addition No. 6, is a 34-lot residential subdivision containing approximately 11.917 acres. The property is located west of Branchwood Drive and north of Stoneridge Drive. Submitted by Landplan Engineering for Douglas Stephens, Executive Officer for Marla, L.L.C., property owner of record.

Approve purchase of property for the extension of Wakarusa Drive in the amount of $64,000. Receive petition for the extension of Wakarusa Drive as a temporary extension to Queens Road; authorize preparation of resolution establishing the benefit district and authorizing the improvement.
