Two Franklin County women were killed and another person was seriously injured Wednesday morning when two cars collided at an intersection on the northeast edge of Ottawa.
Linda Williams, 41, rural Ottawa, and Janice Guthrie, 41, Ottawa, were killed when their two cars collided at the intersection of Sand Creek Road and Davis Avenue, Franlin County Sheriff Craig A. Davis said Wednesday.
A passenger in Williams' vehicle, Randy Scott, 41, rural Ottawa, was transported by LifeNet helicopter to the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., Davis said.
Davis said the accident occurred at 6:31 a.m. Wednesday when Williams' 1991 Pontiac, which was travelling west, collided with Guthrie's 1994 Chevrolet Lumina, which was going north. Both vehicles were destroyed, Davis said.
Williams was transported by Franklin County Ambulance Service to Ransom Memorial Hospital, where she later died of her injuries, the sheriff said. Guthrie was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park by Life Star helicopter, where she was declared deceased upon arrival, Davis said.
None of the occupants of the two vehicles were wearing seatbelts, the sheriff said.
The accident is being investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Davis said.
