A noted mystery writer and Kansas University alumna will speak at Kansas University Dec. 3.
Sara Paretsky will deliver the inaugural Emily Taylor and Marilyn Stokstad Women's Leadership Lecture at 7:30 p.m. in Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union.
Paretsky, a 1967 graduate in political science, has written a dozen novels, including "Total Recall" published this year and featuring the V.I. Warshawski character she created. Her numerous awards include the Silver Dagger Award from the British Crime Writers Assn. and the Marlowe Award from the German Crime Writers Assn.
Paretsky, who now lives in Chicago, helped found Sisters in Crime, an organization for women mystery writers.
The lecture series is named for Taylor, KU's dean of women from 1956 to 1975, and Stokstad, an art history distinguished professor who gave $55,000 to help create the lecture fund.
