Haskell, Baker football seeking wins

November 3, 2001

Winless Haskell Indian Nations and slumping Baker universities will be on the road today in search of football victories.

Haskell (0-9) will tangle with Northwestern Oklahoma State, the 2000 NAIA national runner-up, in Alva, Okla. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.

Baker (4-5) will be hoping to snap a three-game losing skid when it meets Central Methodist in Fayette, Mo. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Haskell will be facing a team on a roll. The Rangers have won their last three games against Langston, Bacone and Peru State by a combined score of 150-12. Haskell lost to all three of those teams earlier.

Northwestern, ranked No. 13 in this week's NAIA poll, toppled the Fightin' Indians, 55-6, last year in Haskell Stadium.

Baker will be facing the Heart of America Conference cellar-dweller in Central Methodist. The Eagles dropped their first eight games all to league foes before edging Southern Nazarene, 21-19, in a non-league contest last Saturday.

Baker needs to win today and in its finale against HAAC leader Benedictine a week from today in order to avoid the Wildcats' first losing season in at least three decades.

Haskell will conclude its season a week from today against Southwestern Assemblies of God in Waxahachie, Texas.
