Stanford opens with 2-1 win

— Jessica Mendoza's RBI-double in the eighth inning gave Stanford a 2-1 victory over Louisiana State on Thursday night in the opening round of the Women's College World Series.

Arizona 3, California 2

Toni Mascarenas hit a three-run homer, her 23rd, with two outs in the sixth inning to lead the top-seeded Wildcats (62-4). Veronica Nelson hit a two-run homer in the seventh for eighth-seeded California (53-17), but Jennie Finch (30-0) got out of the jam for the win.

Oklahoma 2, Michigan 0

Jennifer Stewart (37-3) threw a two-hitter for the fifth-seeded Sooners (50-7), who won their 23rd straight game.

UCLA 2, Iowa 0

Clair Sua's bases-loaded single in the sixth inning scored the game's only runs.
