Now Taul, who coached Baldwin High's basketball team for the last four years, is returning to Topeka Hayden where he spent 14 years as a coach and administrator.
"Basically, I had done everything there except be principal," Taul said. "Now I'm excited about going back. To me, it's like going back home."
At Hayden, Taul will be an assistant football coach and head coach of a to-be-determined spring sport. He has also applied for the boys basketball vacancy.
When Taul, 49, left the Topeka parochial school for Baldwin in 1992, he was the dean of students and the athletics director. During his time at Hayden, he was also an assistant basketball coach, head girls basketball coach, assistant football coach and head football coach. He coached golf, too.
Taul's decision is also based on personal geographic reasons. He has stepchildren who attend Kansas State, his alma mater, and his wife's relatives are from Holton.
"My folks are still in Baldwin," Taul said, "so we'll be centrally located."
