Graveside services for James E. Connett, 76, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence.
Mr. Connett died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 4, 1924, in Lawrence, the son of Chester and Bertha (Newman) Connett. He attended Lawrence schools and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1943.
Mr. Connett served from 1944 to 1945 in the U.S. Navy, and worked at Lawrence Paper Co. for more than 40 years. He retired in 1989. He was a life member of Alford-Clarke Post 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He married Ruth V. Spencer on March 17, 1962, in Shawnee. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Paula Crouse, Karen Oberzan and Marilyn Amyx, all of Lawrence; three sisters, Madeline Norris and Norma Gunn, both of Lawrence, and Mary Bailey, Tempe, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. today.
The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Pediatrics Unit or Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the funeral home.
