Meriden Services for Robert G. Locke, 72, Meriden, will be at 2 p.m. today at Calvary Lutheran Church, Topeka. Burial will be in Meriden Cemetery with military honors conducted by Ozawkie American Legion Post No. 225.
He died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at a Topeka hospice.
He was born Feb. 24, 1929, in Miller, S.D., the son of Arthur Leslie and Nella Esta (Love) Locke. He graduated from Miller High School in 1947 and moved to Meriden in 1970.
Mr. Locke served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1951 to 1953. He was a civil engineering technician with U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He retired in 1984, and then worked for Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Topeka, until 1994.
Mr. Locke was a member of American Legion Bicentennial Post No. 225, Ozawkie; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10815, Meriden, where he was past chaplain; Calvary Lutheran Church, Topeka; and Arab Shrine Temple Patrol Unit. He was a former Meriden city councilman .
He married Eunice A. Steffenson on Sept. 25, 1967, in Macon, Mo. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, William Tackett, Salisbury, Mo., James L. Tackett, Indianapolis, and Robert J. Tackett, Wamego; a daughter, Pamela Locke Shroyer, St. Joseph, Mo.; a brother, Kenneth, St. Lawrence, S.D.; a sister, Norma F. Yerdon, Aberdeen, S.D.; and 11 grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice House of Topeka or Calvary Lutheran Church, sent in care of Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 316, Meriden 66512.
