Authorities on Thursday identified the victim of Wednesday afternoon's fatal crash south of Lawrence.
Arthur D. Williams, 52, of Ottawa, died later Wednesday after arrival at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka. He was taken there by helicopter ambulance from the accident scene, milepost 150 on U.S. Highway 59 south of Lawrence.
Williams was headed north on U.S. 59 in a 1987 Buick Electra when he collided with a southbound 1998 Freightliner semitrailer truck driven by Jonathan E. Kochuyt, 31, of Marengo, Iowa, Douglas County Sheriff Rick Trapp said.
The accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Medical personnel had to extricate Williams from his vehicle, which had no passengers. Kochuyt wasn't injured.
Cause of the accident wasn't known Thursday, Trapp said. Accident reconstruction officers were investigating the crash. Williams' autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
Williams had been employed at Havens Steel Co. in Ottawa in the maintenance department. He also had worked at BarbWire Steak House in Lawrence.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
