Lynda Allen, coordinator of science and health studies since 1995, becomes director of math and science education. In that role, she will be lead administrator for science, math, health and physical education.
Meanwhile, Hillcrest School Principal Bob Arevalo accepted a job as the district's director of personnel. He's been at Hillcrest 10 years and was principal of Centennial School eight years.
Both appointments take effect July 1.
These changes are pieces of an administrative reorganization advanced by Lawrence Supt. Randy Weseman. He expects that the reorganization, which includes elimination or redefinition of 25 jobs, will produce $434,000 an nually in admin istrative salary savings.
Weseman said Allen, 48, was a natural choice.
"She has helped this district develop a first-rate science and health and resource center," he said.
"She's an excellent choice to continue working with our staff in the areas of science and math."
Allen also taught 17 years at Schwegler School.
Arevalo, 49, will work under Mary Rodriguez, the district's executive director of human resources.
The Kansas Association of School Boards recommended the district create a position to focus on classified personnel.
Administrators not retained in the reorganization can be offered teaching positions. Some people passed over are expected to take early retirement.
