Mr. Benedict died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at the VA Medical Center, Topeka.
He was born Feb. 13, 1945, near Daytona, Fla., the son of Richard L. Sr. and Florence Marie (Sholtz) Benedict. He attended high school in Salina and Tonganoxie and earned an associate's degree from St. Mary's College, Leavenworth. He had lived in Topeka for the past year, and previously had lived in California and Wichita.
Mr. Benedict served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1976. He served in Vietnam.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann and Lori; a brother, Fred, Tonganoxie; two sisters, Donna Cummins, Del Rio, Tex., and Brenda Gingerich, Wellington; and two grandchildren.
A son, Richard III, died in the early 1970s.
The family suggests memorials to Disabled American Veterans, sent in care of Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas, Topeka 66608.
