Douglas County commissioners at tonight's meeting will consider a proposed solution to parking problems near the county courthouse.
Allen Press Inc., 810 E. 10th St., which is across the street from the courthouse at 11th and Massachusetts streets, has agreed to rent 33 parking spaces at $200 each for use by county employees. In the proposed agreement, the company will rent the spaces until tenants need the parking.
The county has lost almost 50 parking stalls because of the construction taking place at the Lawrence-Douglas County Judicial & Law Enforcement Building.
The meeting starts at 6:35 p.m. at the county courthouse, 1100 Mass.
Commissioners also will:
l Proclaim April 2 to 8 as Public Health Week.
l Consider text amendments to Chapter 10 of Horizon 2020, the city's and county's comprehensive planning guide, to include additional language pertaining to health services.
l Reconsider a request to rezone about 5 acres from agricultural to a light industrial district for Charles Mestagh, owner of McLouth Excavating. The property is located just east of Midland Junction off U.S. Highway 59.
l Consider approving a conditional use permit for truck parking and storage for Bohmann Excavating Inc. The land, located south of North 1000 Road and east of U.S. Highway 59, is owned by Paul and Kris Oehlert and Glenn and Kim Bohmann.
l Note receipt of an amended list of city and county projects included in the Transportation Improvement Program for fiscal years 2001 to 2005.
l Begin discussion of 2002 budget preparation issues.
