In 1961 - Full interest in the Sol Marks and Son Jewelry Store at 817 Mass. was sold to Delbert Eisele, a partner in the business since 1951. Julius Marks announced plans to retire because of his health.
New chamber of commerce directors elected to three-year terms on the board were Shipman Winter, Mike Getto, Robert Payne, John Vogel, Corlett Cotton, Frank Burge and Robert Oyler.
In 1901 - On March 28, 1901, the Lawrence World observed: "It has always been a puzzle why there has been so much fuss about secret societies. There is nothing secret about any of them. They could just as well run wide open, but for members only, as to have those mysterious grips, signs and passwords. This part of the fraternal business is a farce."
