GOLDEN NELSON OBITUARY

Mrs. Nelson died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Johnson County Nursing Center, Olathe.

She was born Feb. 21, 1919, in Tonkawa, Okla., the daughter of Ralph W. and Mildred (Purgett) Brown. She graduated from Tonkawa (Okla.) High School in 1936 and moved to Pomona in 1937.

Mrs. Nelson was a homemaker, and was a member of Pomona United Methodist Church; United Methodist Women; Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 305; Stitch 'N Chatter Club; and Crafts Club, all of Pomona.

She married L.E. "Jack" Nelson Dec. 24, 1937, in Burlington. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Joyce D. Phillippi, Mission; two sons, Ralph Nelson, Olathe, and Bernard Nelson, Mission; two sisters, Helen Hall, Blackwell, Okla., and Maxine Petty, Santa Maria, Calif.; two brothers, David Brown, Ottawa, and Newton Brown, Lompoc, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, where the family will greet them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

The family suggests memorials to Kansas City Hospice or the church, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa 66067.
