The Bulldogs won their debut, 6-2, over Effingham, and led 10-2 in the nightcap before the lights went out with no outs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

"I'm going to keep the lineup card," McLouth coach Keith Miller said. "I told the girls we made history tonight."

Miller said the second game could be rescheduled later in the season if it has a bearing on regionals.

Freshman Felicia Freeman was the winning pitcher in the opener.

"She pitched really well and had really good control," Miller said. "She had Effingham on their heels. Our catcher, Sherri Brasick, did a good job calling the game tonight."

Freshman Nellie Ryan had four hits in the doubleheader to lead the Bulldogs, who have two seniors and three juniors on their roster.

"Considering this was our first time out, we're all proud," Miller said.

McLouth's booster club raised close to $20,000 to fund baseball and softball this spring.

McLouth -- Effingham crushed McLouth in its baseball debut Monday, 20-2 and 15-1.

"I saw some good things and I saw some bad things," Bulldog coach Cory Cole said of McLouth's first doubleheader. "We just didn't put enough good things together at the right times. Our pitchers had trouble with control.

"We know what we have ahead of us. We're looking forward to the season and we're not going to get down at all."

Cole cited freshman first baseman Travis Steffey for his play.

"He did an outstanding job defensively," Cole said.
