To the editor:
Bewilderingly, Rep. Dennis Moore, D-Kan., by good fortune our own congressman, has been castigated in these pages for not voting like the other members of the Kansas congressional delegation or indeed in tune with the majority of Kansns, who happen at present to be Republicans.
One can say little about the majority of Kansans, except that they happen to be out of touch with the majority of Americans in the Election of 2000, which Al Gore and the Democrats won handily. As to the Kansas congressional delegation, one surely cannot claim for them brilliance of either statesmanship or intellect. On the other hand, Dennis Moore has distinguished himself as a thoughtful and innovative representative of the people of this district. Before that, he had been able and popular official in Johnson County. And since he has been elected and re-elected by the voters of this congressional district, he certainly may claim our high approval of his conduct in office.
We can only hope that he will remain as our representative in Congress for a good long time. He is, after all, the evidence of this district's intelligent quest for good government.
Maybe Mr. Moore, with our support, can become a beacon of hope for the rest of Kansas.
John R. Willingham,
Lawrence
