In 1961 - Official spring semester enrollment at Kansas University was 9,414, an increase of 8.5 percent over the 1960 figure and another spring record. World War II veterans had greatly swelled the student ranks at KU and a figure of 10,000 seemed likely in the next year or so, perhaps as early as the coming fall semester.
More than 200 Lawrence residents attended an exotic feast given by Kansas University students from Arab nations, marking the end of a Muslim festival.
In 1901 - On March 26, 1901, the Lawrence World editorialized: "The outside papers are poking fun at Lawrence because things are a long time in beginning here. While this is true it is also true that they finally do begin and when once begun never stop. Lawrence may not be as brisk as some towns but it never bankrupts its people in lunges ahead or goes backward when once started."
