Frank Steehn and Jerey Hurst, both of Kansas City, Mo., won the season-opening Crappie Busters tournament last Sunday at Pomona Lake. The two won $521.50 by catching 10 crappie that weighed 8.46 pounds.
Doug Wood and John Robb, both of Rossville, placed second by catching 10 crappie that weighed 8.21 pounds. David Scott and Don Hess, both of Topeka, were third, catching nine crappie that weighed 6.53 pounds.

Lake bass record
Kelly Jones of Fritch, Texas, a professional fishing guide and former Lawrence resident, caught and released a 12-pound, 4-ounce largemouth bass last Saturday at Lake Meredith, Texas. Jones caught the lake-record bass on a black-and-orange Rogue in six feet of water during a snowstorm.
Olathe man wins
Mike Edrington of Olathe won the Heartland Tournament Association meet last Sunday at the Lake of the Ozarks and garnered $6,000 by catching four bass on a Smithwick Rogue that weighed 13.60 pounds.

Kingsley places 62nd
Lawrence's Cecil Kingsley caught seven bass that weighed 11 pounds, 11 ounces to place 62nd at the FLW tournament on Wednesday and Thursday at Lake Martin, near Alexander, Ala. Kingsley won $1,800.
