Belgrade, Yugoslavia Vlade Divac failed in his bid to become president of the Yugoslav Olympic Committee.
The Sacramento Kings center, who didn't play for his country at the Sydney Olympics, finished second in Saturday's vote for a position Divac said he sought "in the interest of Yugoslav sport."
Dragan Kicanovic, a former basketball player, was re-elected as president, receiving 44 of 68 votes. Divac received 16 votes, and two other candidates received four votes each.
A year ago, before democratic changes in Yugoslavia, the national committee recommended Divac for a place on the International Olympic Committee's athletes commission. But officials of the now-ousted regime of Slobodan Milosevic blocked the candidacy.
