Monroe photos fail to sell

World-famous photographs of Marilyn Monroe went on the auction block in Hollywood Thursday but failed to attract minimum bids.

The early nudes will remain in the hands of Ventura photographer Tom Kelley, whose father shot them in 1949 and helped rocket Monroe to stardom.

Five bidders offered to pay a total of $840,000 for the five images, but that did not meet an undisclosed minimum price set for the photos, said Gary Saal, Kelley's Northern California agent.

The bidding was held simultaneously at an auction organized by Butterfields in Hollywood and online by its parent company, eBay.

The auction did not feature the most celebrated image to come out of the so-called "Red Velvet" session, a glamour shot of the not-yet-famous starlet lounging against a blood-red curtain and used as the centerfold in Playboy's inaugural issue.

Ex-Spice Girl's home burglarized

Burglars broke into the London apartment of former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and other effects, British newspapers reported.

Police confirmed they were investigating a March 18 burglary at an apartment rented by Halliwell in London's trendy Notting Hill neighborhood. Halliwell known as Ginger Spice until she quit the girl group in 1998 was away at the time. But the Daily Express quoted Halliwell's spokesman, Jonathan Hackford, "It is a simple burglary. It appears the raiders didn't even know who lived in the flat until they were inside."

Even actresses are star watchers

Even a star like Sigourney Weaver can act like a fan.

"The most embarrassing moment of my life was ... I saw someone who looked a lot like Tom Cruise buying something," she told ABC's "PrimeTime Thursday," which aired Thursday night.

So she let out a scream.

"And he turned around and it was Tom Cruise. And I was already known then. I mean I had made a film."

And she screamed again. "I ran out. I was so embarrassed," said Weaver, who starred as Ripley in the four "Alien" movies. Her latest films are "Company Man," now in theaters, and "Heartbreakers," which opens today.

Whitney to do Bond film

Whitney Houston is set to become the successor to Honey Rider, Mary Goodnight, Octopussy, and yes, Pussy Galore, reportedly inking a deal to become the next James Bond girl. Final approval rests with Dana Broccoli, widow of Bond film producer Albert Broccoli.
