Memorial services for Lila E. Featherston, 87, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Brandon Woods Retirement Community's Smith Center. Military honors will be conducted by Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion. Her body has been donated to Kansas University Medical Center, and private inurnment will be at a later date in Overbrook Cemetery.
Miss Featherston died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.
She was born July 3, 1913, in Globe, the daughter of Louis H. and Lutie Weimer Featherston. She graduated from the College of Emporia and later graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, Baltimore.
Miss Featherston had taught in Admire for two years, and served as a surgical nurse in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946.
She then taught at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and later worked for many years as surgical charge nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Topeka. She retired in 1973.
Miss Featherston was a member of Washington Creek Church of the Brethren, American Legion, Washington Creek Ladies Aid Society and several bridge clubs. She was a 10-year volunteer at Overbrook Sale Barn, where she worked in the restaurant. She had also received an award for her nursing from Johns Hopkins University.
Survivors include several cousins.
The family will receive friends at Brandon Woods Retirement Community following services.
The family suggests memorials in her name to Kansas University Men's Basketball Program, Johns Hopkins Alumnae Assn. or Washington Creek Church of the Brethren, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
