In 1976 - The Lawrence High Symphonic Band gave a tent concert at the Gibson parking lot to raise funds for a trip to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington. The group was near its goal of $22,500.
Preliminary plans for Kansas University's new satellite student union were due to be completed by late spring, according to Frank Burge, union director. The new site was to be just northwest of Allen Fieldhouse.
In 1961 - A token number of Lawrence voters gave support to Ted Kennedy, Fred Cooper and Rusty Springer in a city commission primary election.
Winners of the Lawrence High posture contest were Jackie Garland, Mimi Frink, Karen Hill and Gwen Stuart.
In 1901 - On March 22, 1901, the Lawrence World commented: "The vicious custom of sending threatening letters demanding money or kidnapping is a fake that has been worked long enough. It is only intended to scare people. Criminal operators do not proceed in that manner more than once or twice."
