A one-act play written by Adam Blair, a 17-year-old Lawrence High School junior, is one of 11 winners selected from more than 600 entries in the annual Young Playwrights Festival National Playwriting Competition.

Student-authors of the selected plays will spend a week Monday through April 1 in New York City at the Young Playwrights Writers Conference.

They'll go through intensive playwright-development workshops and finish with staged readings of the winning plays.

The students will also attend performances of Broadway and off-Broadway shows each night, as well as have dinner at the home of Alfred Uhry, author of the hit play "Driving Miss Daisy."

Adam's play is called "Dancing in the Snow."

"It's very existentialist, or something like that," Adam said. "It's about these two guys and a monkey, pretty much. Everybody dies in the end."
