To the editor:
It's amazing to realize the misconceptions that Americans have these days. We're overtaxed. Compassionate conservatism. George Bush for the middle class. Heck, I'd bet that half of these people would swear that the U.S. is in good standing with the rest of the world.
The remnants of manifest destiny are still visible in the dream world we create today. The U.S. is justified in whatever is does, and our most serious issue is a tax break for the rich with a little relief for the middle class piggybacking in. Wake up.
Years of racist foreign policy and covert operations around the world are catching up to us; the rest of the world will no longer deal with the U.S. calling the shots. Terrorist acts committed by the U.S. government have come full circle, and we will soon reap what we have sown.
Bush's tax plan is reminiscent of the plan Reagan's aides came up with. It is another attempt to return to feudalism. Tax breaks for the rich. Comparatively little for the rest. Put the money in the hands of your friends, and they'll put it back into yours.
Unfortunately, most people would rather have that extra tax refund for their new color TV than actually bother themselves with the facts of the situation. But soon there will be much more to worry about than tax refunds. The novelty of the U.S. is completely gone, and soon the citizens of the U.S. will feel the wrath of the world it has exploited. Enjoy your tax refund.

Lawrence
