INDEPENDENCE, KAN. Services for Albert Henry Fitz Sr., 87, Coffeyville, will be at 11 a.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church, Independence.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Mr. Fitz died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Medicalodge Nursing Home, Coffeyville.
He was born March 6, 1914, in Independence, the son of Julius William and Emma (Baden) Fitz. He attended Zion Lutheran School, Independence, and St. John's Academy, Winfield, and graduated from Independence High School. He also attended Independence Junior College.
Mr. Fitz worked for Baden Wholesale and Fleming Wholesale in Nowata, Okla., and Bartlesville, Okla., then operated Baden Q. Store, Neodesha. He retired from Al's East Side Market, Independence, in 1978.
He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, and served on the Zion Lutheran School board. He was active in the church's Walther League, the Lutheran Laymen's League and the Men's Club, and had coached the softball team. After moving to Coffeyville, he was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He married Flora Ruehling on June 11, 1939, in Independence. She died in 1983. He married Dorothy Bracher on Aug. 4, 1984, in Independence. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Albert Jr., Wichita; four daughters, Jo Ann Siler, Lawrence, Carol Haberstock, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Rose Wilson, Wichita, and Karen Holman, Lee's Summit, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Janice Moeller, Lompoc, Calif., and Phyllis Jenkins, Coffeyville; a stepson, Dwayne Bracher, Coffeyville; a brother, the Rev. Edwin Fitz, Marquette, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
A son, the Rev. Jules, a stepson, David Bracher, and a grandchild died earlier.
The family suggests memorials to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Zion Lutheran Church or the American Parkinson Disease Assn. Inc., and they may be sent in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home, 2400 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville 67337.
