Tulsa eliminates Minnesota, 76-73

— Tulsa blew an 18-point lead in the second half but came back in overtime, defeating Minnesota 76-73 on Monday night in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Tulsa (23-11), which reached the final eight in the NCAA tournament last season, will play Mississippi State in the quarterfinals.

Minnesota took a 73-72 lead in overtime on a three-point play by Kerwin Fleming with 1:17 remaining, but Tulsa's David Shelton scored with 11 seconds remaining and Shane Schilling missed Minnesota's final shot with two seconds remaining. The Golden Hurricane's Marcus Hill made two free throws to seal the victory.

Tulsa, led by Kevin Johnson's 22 points, held big leads for much of the game, including a 49-31 advantage with 13 minutes remaining. The Gophers outscored the Golden Hurricane 30-12 over the next 10 minutes including 13 points by Dusty Rychart to tie it at 61 on a three-pointer by Terrance Simmons.

Simmons tied it again at 65 on a driving layup with 14 seconds left. Tulsa's Antonio Reed missed a jumper, and Simmons missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.

Before the Gophers' second-half run, the Golden Hurricane outscored them 17-5 in the opening minutes of the second half for a 49-31 lead, getting eight of the points from Hill. Tulsa also had runs of eight and six points in the first half to jump out to a 30-17 lead. The Gophers came back to score the final five points of the half to make it 32-26.

Dayton 71, Richmond 56

Dayton, Ohio Tony Stanley scored 17 points and Brooks Hall added 14 to lead Dayton over Richmond in the second round. With the score tied at 50 with 7:23 remaining, the Flyers (21-12) went on an 18-3 run, paced by Stanley and Hall. A breakaway steal and dunk by Stanley ignited the hometown crowd. Richmond (22-7) got into foul trouble in the second half, enabling Dayton to seal the game at the foul line. Greg Stevenson had 21 points and six rebounds for Richmond, but the Spiders were 5-of-20 from 3-point range. The Flyers outrebounded the Spiders 36-28.

Mississippi St. 66, Pittsburgh 61

Pittsburgh Michael Gholar and Derrick Zimmerman each shot 3-pointers in the final 1:10 to help lead Mississippi State over Pittsburgh in the second round. Zimmerman, a reserve averaging just four points a game, score 15 for the Bulldogs (18-12).
