— Services for Valda Jo Carder Ziegenhorn Woodruff, 56, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City, Mo. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Woodruff died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 16, 1944, in Oklahoma City, and grew up in Kansas City, Mo.

She graduated from Southwest High School, Kansas City, Mo., in 1963. After earning her associate degree from Metropolitan Junior College in 1965, she earned her bachelor's degree in English literature at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1967 and a master's degree in English literature in 1974, also from UMKC. She received her doctorate in English from Kansas University in 1980.

Mrs. Woodruff lived in Kansas City, Mo., from 1946 to 1969.

She married Charles Ziegenhorn in 1969, and they moved to Overland Park, Kan., where they lived for 21 years. She and her husband separated in 1990, when she moved to Lawrence with her second husband, Bruce Woodruff. He survives of the home.

Mrs. Woodruff was a teacher at Westport High School, Kansas City, Mo., from 1968 to 1970. She was a substitute teacher in the Shawnee Mission School District from 1971 to 1974. She taught at F.L. Schlagle High School in Kansas City, Kan., from 1974 until she retired in 1998.

Mrs. Woodruff was a multiple-year honoree of Who's Who Among America's Teachers for 1998 and 1999, a member of the National Education Assn., a lifelong member of the Camp Fire Girls, a member of the Barn Players, a member of the Unity Society of Practical Christianity, a lifelong member of the Rosicrucians, and a member of the Pulmonary Hypertension Assn.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Pulmonary Hypertension Assn., the Camp Fire or Camp Shawnee Alumni Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.
