Here is a list of events related to the Oscar Micheaux Golden Anniversary Memorial Celebration Saturday and March 25 in Great Bend.

All events are free and at the Crest Theatre in downtown Great Bend, unless indicated otherwise.

Saturday

l 9 a.m., welcome by local dignitaries.

l 9:15 a.m., documentary "Midnight Ramble: Oscar Micheaux and the Story of Race Movies."

l 10:15 a.m., question-answer session with Pearl Bowser, co-producer of "Midnight Ramble."

l 11 a.m., "Within Our Gates," film by Micheaux.

l noon, lunch at Great Bend Elks Club, 1120 Kansas Ave., $9 per person.

l 1 p.m., panel discussion on "Within Our Gates," led by Bowser.

l 1:40 p.m., "The Black Voice in a White Body: Hattie McDaniel Becomes the Disembodied Voice of Vivien Leigh in 'Gone With the Wind,'" presentation on Hattie McDaniel by Charlene Regester of the University of North Carolina.

l 2:15 p.m., presentation by J. Ronald Green, professor at Ohio State University and author of "Straight Lick: The Cinema of Oscar Micheaux."

l 3:30 p.m., "In Their Own Words: Memories and Memoirs of African-Americans in the West," lecture by James Leiker of St. Cloud State University.

l 4:30 p.m., "The Lost Films of Oscar Micheaux," lecture by Eric Monder, New York City author and film critic.

l 5 p.m., presentation by Betti Carol Van Epps Taylor, author of "Oscar Micheaux."

l 7:30 p.m., "An Evening with James McDaniel, Lt. Arthur Fancy of 'NYPD Blue,'" $5 per person.

March 25

l 9:30 a.m., gospel music concert.

l 1 p.m., wreath-laying ceremony at Micheaux's grave, Great Bend Cemetery on West Broadway.

l 2:30 p.m., "Oscar Micheaux and the Coming of Sound," presentation by Chuck Berg, Kansas University theater and film professor.

l 3:10 p.m., "One Step Ahead: Oscar Micheaux and the Censors," presentation by Richard Grupenhoff of Rowan University.

l 4 p.m., "Man of a Thousand Faces: Noble Johnson and the Lincoln Motion Picture Co.," presentation by Jane Gaines of Duke University.

l 4:40 p.m., "Challenges Facing the Independent Filmmaker Today," lecture by Kevin Willmott, KU assistant professor of theater and film and independent filmmaker.

l 7 p.m., "The Other Oscars," Golden Belt Country Club, 24th Street and Frey, $20.
