Boy Scout Troop 52 celebrated Scout Sunday on Feb. 25 with church services held at its chartered organization, First United Methodist Church of Lawrence.

Michael Ornburn, troop chaplain's aide, participated in the service by reading scripture. Glen Sharp, scoutmaster, informed the church congregation of the "State of the Troop" and reviewed troop activities of the last year.

Also on Feb. 25, the youths and adults did volunteer work at a Pancake and Sausage Feed held by the United Methodist Men's Assn. of the church. Scouts who helped were: Tristan Wagner, Will Sharp, Jack Berkowitz, David Long, Matthew Rogers, Justin Deaver, Wes Cook, Bill Berkowitz, Michael Ornburn, Josh Spradlin, Todd Roberts, Henry Reiske, Pete Tuttle, Mason McCurdy, Timothy Barta, Josh Cosgrove, David Ohlhausen, Steen Rhines, Spenser Rhines, Austin Inzer and Phillip Gilreath. Adults who helped were: Tammy Barta, Wayne Deaver, Glen Sharp, Chuck Gilreath, Tim Rhines, Rachel Kastiltis, Sue Reiske, David Berkowitz, Rowley Tedlock, Tim Cosgrove, Myra Cosgrove, Kyndol Ohlhausen, Mark Reiske and Bill Rogers.






Boy Scout Troop 53, chartered to the First Christian Church of Lawrence, had a campout March 9 and 10 at the Graham Farm in rural Douglas County. Twenty-two scouts and eight leaders spent the night. Five additional scouts and three leaders participated on March 10.

Ray Segebrecht, Brett Yulich, Aaron Ideus, Daniel Klamet, Collin Watgen and Mitch Grant finished their junior leader training during the campout. They had attended two other sessions and will become patrol leaders for the new scout patrols in April.

A "tap out" was conducted Saturday for scouts selected as candidates for the Order of the Arrow. Those scouts were: Brett Yulich, Aaron Ideus, Mitch Grant, Brian Teffey, Ray Segebrecht, Hamilton Lewis, Robert Figueira and Ben Robertson.






Six scouts from Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to the First Methodist Church of Lawrence, attended the Lawrence school board meeting March 12 as part of their Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge.

The scouts who attended were: Tim Barta, Jack Berkowitz, Justin Deaver, Philip Gilreath, Spencer Rhines and Evan Tedlock. Adult leaders attending were David Berkowitz, assistant scoutmaster and merit badge counselor, and Tammy Barta, troop secretary.
