RICHMOND, VA. Kinte Smith scored 16 of his season-high 24 points in the first half as Richmond beat West Virginia 79-56 on Friday in the first round of the NIT.
With their sixth consecutive victory, the Spiders (22-6) advanced to play at Dayton in a second-round game Monday.
Richmond led by as many as 15 points in the first half. It was 47-33 at the break, and the Mountaineers (17-12) could get no closer. The Spiders' biggest lead in the second half was 27 points.
Calvin Bowman led the Mountaineers with 17 points.
