New York — Jurors spent a second day deliberating weapons charges Thursday against Sean "Puffy" Combs, and an alternate juror said she would have found the rap mogul innocent.
Aurora Garcia-Susana, 37, predicted that the jury also would conclude that the prosecution failed to prove its case.
"I don't think there was enough evidence to convict Mr. Combs," Garcia-Susana, a medical records clerk at New York Presbyterian Hospital, said Wednesday, shortly after she and two other alternates were released from service.
"I would have voted not guilty, and I think he will be acquitted," Garcia-Susana said. "But his testimony, I don't think, was all that truthful. Still, the prosecution did not prove its case."
Combs, 31, was charged with weapons possession and bribery after his Dec. 27, 1999, arrest as he fled a Times Square-area nightclub where gunfire had erupted.
Combs' protege and co-defendant, Jamaal "Shyne" Barrow, was charged with shooting three people in the club.
Combs' bodyguard, Anthony "Wolf" Jones, faces the same charges as his boss.
Combs faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
Garcia-Susana said she did not entirely believe Combs when he testified.
"I don't think he is guilty, but I don't think the whole truth was said," she told reporters. "He said he didn't know what was going on. How could he not know what was going on? The argument took place in a small area."
The jury spent part of the day Thursday rehearing the testimony of a prosecution witness, a ballistics expert who recreated the trajectories of the bullets fired inside the Club New York. It was the jury's first request for a repeat of trial testimony.
