Buses changing routes to accommodate downtown event

The city will re-route and modify bus routes Saturday to accommodate the St. Patrick's Day Parade, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Lawrence.

The traditional transfer location at Ninth and Massachusetts streets will be temporarily relocated to the northwest corner of Eighth and Vermont streets, near the Douglas County Senior Center. Route 4, which serves North Lawrence, will be out of service for the two-hour stint.

The modified schedule follows:

Route 1: Will cover additional area east of Massachusetts and run at approximate 20-minute intervals.

Route 1 Downtown: Will continue regular route to Ninth and Connecticut, then proceed south on Connecticut to 11th, east on 11th to New Jersey, south on New Jersey to 14th, west on 14th to Kentucky, north on Kentucky to Ninth, east on Ninth to Vermont, north on Vermont to Eighth, west on Eighth to layover at Eighth and Vermont on the south side of the Douglas County Senior Center. This allows coverage of the portion of Route 2 that would otherwise be missed.

Route 1 to 28th and Haskell: From Eighth and Vermont, west on Eighth to Tennessee, south on Tennessee to 14th, east on 14th to New Jersey, north on New Jersey to 11th, west on 11th to Connecticut, north on Connecticut to Ninth, east on Ninth to regular route.

Route 2 Downtown: From 14th and New Jersey, west on 14th to Kentucky, north on Kentucky to Ninth, east on Ninth to Vermont, north on Vermont to Eighth, west on Eighth to layover at Eighth and Vermont on the south side of Douglas County Senior Center.

Route 2 Haskell: From Eighth and Vermont, west on Eighth to Tennessee, south on Tennessee to 14th, east on 14th to New Jersey, south on New Jersey to regular route.

Route 3 Downtown: Layover at Eighth and Vermont on the east side of Douglas County Senior Center.

Route 3 Lakeview Road: From Eighth and Vermont, west on Eighth Street to Kentucky, continue regular route.

Route 4: Out of service from 1 p.m. to 3:04 p.m. Will assist in coverage of Route 1 at approximate 20-minute intervals.

Route 5: No effect.

Route 6 Clockwise: From Sixth and Vermont, south on Vermont, layover at Eighth and Vermont on the east side of the Douglas County Senior Center. Outbound continue on Vermont to Ninth Street, west on Ninth to regular route.

Route 6 Counterclockwise: From Ninth and Vermont, north on Vermont to Eighth, west on Eighth to layover at Eighth and Vermont on the south side of Douglas County Senior Center. Outbound from Eighth and Vermont is regular route.

Route 7 Downtown: From Massachusetts, west on 14th to Kentucky, north on Kentucky to Ninth, east on Ninth to Vermont, north on Vermont to Eighth, west on Eighth to layover at Eighth and Vermont on the south side of the Douglas County Senior Center.

Route 7 to 34th and Iowa: From Eighth and Vermont, west to Tennessee, south on Tennessee to 14th, east on 14th to Massachusetts, south on regular route.

Route 8 Downtown: From Ninth and Vermont, north on Vermont to Eighth, west on Eighth to layover at Eighth and Vermont on the south side of the Douglas County Senior Center. Outbound continue on Eighth to Kentucky, south on Kentucky to Ninth Street, west on Ninth to regular route.
