— The Boston Bruins got Byron Dafoe back just in time for the playoff race.

And they're going to need him.

Dafoe returned from an injury to stop 21 shots as the Bruins tied the Vancouver Canucks 2-2. The Bruins remained in ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings, three points behind eighth-place Carolina, which beat Washington 3-0 on Thursday night.

"This is basically our playoff run right now, and we're going to try to extend it," said Dafoe, who missed 13 games after straining his hamstring. "We've got 12 games left, and that's not a lot of hockey."

Flyers 3, Wild 0

Philadelphia Roman Cechmanek got his league-leading ninth shutout by stopping just 15 shots as Philadelphia blanked Minnesota. Cechmanek, in his first NHL season, was forced to save only three shots in the second period.

Hurricanes 3, Capitals 0

Washington Jeff O'Neill scored two power-play goals for the Hurricanes. O'Neill got his 34th and 35th goals, and Rod Brind'Amour scored his 17th as the Hurricanes broke a three-game losing streak.

Blackhawks 3, Predators 2

Chicago Tony Amonte and Michael Nylander scored 20 seconds apart early in the third period as Chicag defeated Nashville and ended a three-game winless streak.

Red Wings 5, Flames 2

Detroit Brendan Shanahan had the first four-goal game of his career and added an assist.

Lightning 3, Leafs 2

Tampa, Fla. Fredrik Modin scored for the first time in 10 games for Tampa Bay, 5-0-0-1 in its last six home games. The Lightning had lost 10 consecutive home games to Toronto.
