Sarasota, Fla. Former Reds outfielder Jon Nunnally drove in two runs as the Kansas City Royals used a four-run seventh inning to beat Cincinnati, 4-2, Wednesday night.
After Rey Sanchez singled in a run off of Dennys Reyes, Nunnally doubled home two runs and scored on a Carlos Febles single.
Pete Harnisch, scheduled to be the Reds opening day starter, pitched six shutout innings. Harnisch allowed four hits and extended his scoreless inning streak to 1413 innings.
The Reds took a 1-0 lead in the first when Pokey Reese singled and Ken Griffey Jr. drove him in with a double. Back-to-back doubles by Sean Casey and Alex Ochoa gave the Reds a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
Griffey will not travel with the team to today's game against the Rangers and his former Seattle teammate Alex Rodriguez. It's the third time the teams have played this spring and the two players have not played against each other.
