Charity to gain from green bagels
Einstein Bros Bagels is continuing its St. Patrick's Day tradition of donating 20 percent of sales of its buckets o' green bagels to charity.
The bagel chain's buckets include 13 seasonal green bagels and two 6-ounce tubs of cream cheese for $9.99. The offer is good through Saturday. This week, Einstein's will also offer Irish Cr decaffeinated coffee and iced shamrock-shaped sugar cookies, all above.
Funds raised through the sale of the green bagel buckets will benefit the Missouri Lion's Eye Research Foundation, a program that aims to prevent blindness in children. Einstein Bros has stores at 1026 Mass. St. and 3514 Clinton Parkway.
Creatures of habit
Supermarkets stock thousands of food items, but as many as 75 percent of the food choices consumers make come from a list of the same 100 items, according to a Kansas State University nutrition educator.
Sharon Morcos, who teaches nutrition classes at the university, said the habit of eating the same things is most prevalent with breakfast. She said two-thirds of American adults start their day with coffee and little else.

The contest is sponsored by the National Chicken Council, a trade association based in Washington, D.C.
Celebrity cookbook helps fight hunger

The cookbook features 31 recipes, including 15 celebrity recipes, and benefits Share Our Strength, one of the nation's leading anti-hunger, anti-poverty organizations.
For each celebrity who contributes a recipe to the cookbook, the alliance makes a donation in his or her name to Share Our Strength.
To receive a copy of the cookbook, send a donation to Share Our Strength, P.O. Box 991, Pittsburgh, PA 15230-0991. Include a return address and request for the cookbook. A $5 minimum donation is suggested.
