Parents and students have more ways than ever to get information about school closings and delays, thanks to improvements by Sunflower Cablevision, World Online, the Lawrence Journal-World and the Lawrence school district.
Sunflower Cablevision has worked with the district to give officials the technical ability to remotely update and post time-sensitive information such as school closings and bulletins on Sunflower Cable channel 26, said Patrick Knorr, Sunflower general manager. The channel, provided to the district by the cable company, offers a steady diet of school information 24 hours a day.

The moving line on Sunflower Cable Channel 6 is another source of breaking school-schedule news. Such closings and delay information also will be posted as "breaking news" on the ljworld.com Web site as soon as decisions are made by district officials.
The information also can be found in the "school news" page of the schools.lawrence.com site, which is maintained by World Online.
In a recent Sound Off column in the Journal-World, school officials indicated that radio broadcasts were the only source for such information. But the additional means have been in place since early January, according to Julie Boyle, district spokeswoman.
Closings also are to be posted on the school district's Web site at www.usd497.org, Boyle said.
Sunflower Cablevision and World Online are owned by The World Company, which also owns the Lawrence Journal-World.
