— Mario Lemieux's latest goal wasn't pretty, but it was quite effective.

The short-handed tally 4:43 into the third-period sparked a three-goal Pittsburgh rally as the Penguins played to a 3-3 tie Monday night with the New York Rangers.

Brian Leetch scored with 1:08 left in regulation to salvage the draw for New York, which led 2-0 entering the third.

Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and Robert Lang scored less than 12 minutes apart to push the Penguins in front with only 3:35 left in regulation. Defenseman Andrew Ference had two assists.

But it was Lemieux who started it with a shot from the right-side boards that got past Guy Hebert as he shifted his body in the crease.

"It was the kind of goal that's not supposed to go in," said Lemieux, who has scored 640 in his career. "It gave us a boost."

Sharks 3, Canadiens 0

San Jose, Calif. Evgeni Nabokov got his fifth shutout and Owen Nolan scored from the middle of the rink as the revitalized San Jose Sharks ended their seven-game winless streak. Nabokov continued to polish his Calder Trophy credentials with another standout performance. He made 20 saves, earned an assist on Nolan's goal and got his 29th victory as the Sharks tied the franchise record with their 35th win.
