Krivoshia, Vinson all-league selections

Free State High senior Pat Krivoshia and Lawrence High junior Stephen Vinson were the two city players selected to the all-Sunflower League boys basketball team.

Krivoshia averaged a team-high 13.3 points a game to lead the Firebirds, who qualified for the Class 6A state tournament his junior and senior seasons.

Vinson was the top scorer for the Lions at 12.6 points a game.

Leavenworth senior Wayne Simien, a Kansas University signee, was named the league's player of the year.

Senior Martin deBoer and junior D.J. Watkins received honorable mention for Lawrence High. FSHS sophomore Keith Wooden also received honorable mention.

Rhodes tapped to play

Free State High senior guard/forward Katie Rhodes has been selected to play in the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Assn. All-Star Game on April 7. Rhodes led the Firebirds in scoring with an average of 14.1 points a game.

Free State hockey drops two games

Wichita Wind toppled Free State, 2-0 and 3-2, in the state high school hockey playoffs last weekend in Lenexa. The Wind, composed of players from selected Wichita high schools, won the second game with 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

Members of the Free State team were seniors Cam Knight, James Moore and Joey O'Brien; juniors Brandon Schaeffer, Matt Lawrence, David Knight and Jon Ewing; and sophomores Matt Schwabauer, Ian Pope and Kyle Berthold.
