— Services for Dr. Helmy Hanna Tawadros, 69, Topeka, will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Topeka. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.

Dr. Tawadros died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at a Topeka hospital.

He was born Jan. 6, 1932, in Menia, Egypt. He immigrated to the United States in 1971 and moved to Topeka in 1973.

Dr. Tawadros graduated in 1955 from Ein-Shams School of Medicine, Cairo, Egypt. He practiced medicine in Egypt from 1955 to 1969 as a specialist in pulmonary diseases. He worked from 1969 to 1971 in England, where he became a member of the Royal College of Chest Physicians.

After moving to Topeka, he served as chief of pulmonary services and later chief of medicine at the Colmery-O'Neil Veterans Administration Hospital. He retired in 1995.

He was a member of American College of Chest Physicians and American College of Physicians. He was board certified in both internal medicine and chest diseases. He had also received many honors and commendations for his work as a physician and chief of medicine.

He married Mary Labib Basta on Jan. 14, 1962, in Cairo. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Hossam, Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Hanan Kathy Gaumer, Lawrence; and six grandchildren.

Friends may call after noon today at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka.

The family suggests memorials to St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, 10024 W. 49th St., Shawnee Mission 66203.
